Leading by example
In a game where numbers speak louder than words, Babar Azam has once again proven his mettle by becoming the second-fastest Asian batter to reach 12,000 runs, in just 277 innings, after Virat Kohli who did it in one innings less. The 26-year-old skipper achieved this remarkable feat during his 49-run knock in the first ODI against New Zealand at Pindi Cricket Stadium.
Babar’s outstanding performance in all formats of the game has placed him in an elite club of Asian cricketers — a testament to his undeniable talent and dedication to the sport. With this milestone, he has surpassed some of the biggest names in cricket history, cementing his position as a world-class player and a force to be reckoned with. It is hard to ignore the sheer brilliance that he brings to the field. His style of calculated aggression has earned him the admiration of cricket fans across the world. But, like any other top player, Babar too has had to deal with his fair share of critics, with many either blaming him for nepotism or doubting his captaining abilities. Despite the harsh criticism from what has now become a cult of Babar-haters, it must be realised that Babar’s captaincy period is in its nascent stages. There is still a long way to go and a lot to learn. That said, the team can use a senior player who is able to provide guidance and support, as inexperience is evident in crunch situations during tough matches.
Regardless, Babar’s rise to the top has been nothing short of spectacular, and he has become a beacon of hope for young cricketers around the world. His success story is a testament to the power of hard work, perseverance and dedication, and he serves as an inspiration to many aspiring cricketers who wish to represent their country. If he remains steadfast in his pursuit, he has all the potential of becoming one of the greatest players cricket has ever seen.
