Another 1,000 police personnel deployed in riverine area

New contingent will continue ongoing operations against criminals and terrorists

Inspector General Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar said that 1,000 fresh personnel were deployed in South Punjab for operations in riverine areas on Thursday, with another 2,000 personnel to be deployed tomorrow.

The fresh contingent is made up of elite commandos, snipers, special operation units and veterans of the Punjab Constabulary.

The force has been armed with the latest weapons, sniper rifles, body armour and other pieces of operational equipment.

IG Punjab handed the Punjab Police flag to the Commander during a heartwarming ‘Atta i Alam’ ceremony at the Central Police Office on Thursday. While shaking hands with the officers, he sent them off in buses to riverine areas.

While addressing officers, he said that Punjab Police personnel are performing their national duty of eradicating criminal elements from the riverine areas with great diligence.

He expressed full confidence in the personnel deployed in riverine areas and was hopeful that the writ of the state and Constitution of Pakistan will be enforced in the region.

The Punjab Police are conducting an ongoing operation to clear criminal and terrorist elements from riverine areas with the support of security agencies.

IGP announced that several areas are being cleared every day through targeted operations and that police have established a firm presence in the riverine areas.

He directed the force to expedite operations.

IG Punjab said that every bullet fired at the police will be answered with three more and no effort shall be spared to protect every inch of Pakistan’s soil.

Dr Anwar said that the Punjab Police will completely clean up the riverine areas and bring criminal elements to justice, ensuring that the rule of law is fully restored and maintained.
