My life was going to change: AR Rahman’s daughter gushes over U2 collaboration

Khatija Rahman feels exhilarated about her upcoming album

Music composer AR Rahman's daughter, Khatija Rahman, is set to release a new album, Kuhu Kuhu, featuring Hindi cinema's classic songs. This comes after Khatija took a break from her musical journey eight years ago due to feeling overwhelmed by the response she received.

However, after her mother's insistence, Khatija returned to making music and collaborated with her father on the track Ahimsa for the legendary rock band U2. Khatija shared her experience of working with the band and praised Bono and Edge for being "the kindest superstars" she ever met.

In a video shared by the Oscar-winning maestro on Wednesday, Khatija is seen speaking about collaborating with her father for the band U2: “My father said my life was going to change. We had recorded some lines from Thirukkural, but little did I know that it was a collaboration with the biggest band in the world, U2.”

“Bono and Edge were the kindest superstars I ever met,” Khatija continued. “The way they made me feel and put me at ease was incredible. Apart from being great musicians, I think they are incredible human beings as they stand up for the right things. The track we did is called Ahimsa, and it is a collab between my father AR Rahman and U2. We performed as a part of the Joshua Tree Concert in Mumbai,” she added.

The idea for Kuhu Kuhu came from her father, who suggested she rework and introduce Hindi cinema's classic songs to the younger generation. Some of the tracks featured on the album include Aapki nazron ne samjha, Piya tose, and Kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya. Khatija hopes to bring a fresh perspective to these timeless classics and appeal to a new generation of music lovers.

AR Rahman is known for his contributions to the Indian music industry and has won multiple awards, including two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and several Grammys. With Khatija following in his footsteps and making her mark on the industry, the Rahman family continues to leave a lasting impact on the world of music.
