BHAKKAR:

Over 3.5 million people suffer from malaria every year in Pakistan, while over 50,000 people lose their lives at the hands of the disease.

These views were expressed during a special awareness seminar and walk organized at the Multipurpose Hall of DHQ Hospital to mark World Malaria Day.

The seminar was presided over by Health CEO Dr Atiqur Rehman Khan, while DHQ MS Dr Asif Mehmood Qazi, DMS DHQ Hospital Dr Ehsanullah Niazi, Dr Muhammad Naeem Chip and a large number of doctors and paramedical staff also attended the event.

Speaking at the seminar, the health CEO said almost 3.5 million people fall prey to malaria every year in Pakistan, while over 50,000 people die. He said that citizens should take special care of their surroundings and ensure the cleanliness of houses, streets and neighborhoods.

He added that the malaria mosquito breeds mostly in dirty water, so it is imperative to ensure there is no standing or dirty water to stop malaria mosquitoes from breeding. He said cleanliness can prevent many diseases and stated that along with the administration, every member of society should play their due role to eliminate waste, cesspits and garbage heaps. In case of symptoms of malaria fever, consult a qualified doctor and never seek treatment from unqualified physicians.
