RAWALPINDI:

During the Eidul Fitr holidays, the Department of Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control carried out a comprehensive crackdown on defaulters of property tax, luxury tax, and professional tax. As a result, a total of Rs1.8 million was recovered from these defaulters, which accounted for up to 60% of the current financial year's shortfall.

In addition, 28 properties were sealed and five defaulters were arrested as part of the enforcement efforts. This rigorous action by the department aimed to ensure compliance with tax regulations and to recover outstanding dues, thereby contributing to the revenue generation of the government and maintaining financial discipline.

Moreover, the motor branch of the department has announced a general hold-up on April 26 (today) for a significant operation against vehicles driven on token tax, non-customs paid, vehicles driven on open letters and vehicles driven with fake number plates.

As part of the general hold-up, a special blockage will be installed in front of Morgah, Mandra Toll Plaza, Murid Chowk, Peshawar Mor, Swan Camp, Chakri and Adiala Road, Sabzi Mandi and wholesale Markets in Rawalpindi which continue from 9am till 5pm during which all non-custom paid, stolen, open letter, non-token taxed goods, public transport and general vehicles will be confiscated and taxes will be collected with heavy fines.
