On the occasion of Eidul Fitr, Eid cards were sent to each other to express love and keep relationships strong.
The postal department used to get revenue of Rs10 million in just 23 days of Ramazan alone in the form of urgent and ordinary ticket fees. On the occasion of Eid, business communities also used to send their monogrammed cards to business entities. However, the cards have now been replaced by social media and the tradition of sending cards through the postal department has ended.
In the past, as soon as Ramazan began, the post office also used to release the schedule for sending Eid cards inland and overseas. People used to send Eid cards to their loved ones by post to express their love and keep the relationship strong.
Sources said that earlier on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, the business community also used to send Eid cards by post to maintain business relations with government, semi-government and business entities. However, since the business community has stopped sending Eid cards through the post office, their annual revenue has decreased.
A senior officer of the Pakistan Post said that the department used to receive hundreds of thousands of rupees in revenue by delivering Eid cards, but now the tradition of sending of cards to foreign countries had ended.
