Over 8,000 cops perform Eid security duty
The security situation in the provincial capital remained on high alert on the eve of Eidul Fitr, in response to the present country situation.
The Lahore police, under the direction of Capital City Police Officer Lahore Additional IG Bilal Siddique Kamyana, had devised a comprehensive security plan to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of citizens.
More than 8,000 police officers and officials, including six SPs, 35 DSPs, 83 SHOs, and over 373 subordinates, were deployed on Eidul Fitr to protect 5,000 mosques and 190 public places in the city.
The personnel of Anti-Riot Force (ARF), Special Protection Unit, Dolphin Squad, and Police Response Unit (PRU) remained vigilant on their duty points, carrying out effective patrolling and thorough checking of citizens at mosques and other related places.
Dolphin Squad and PRU teams carried out effective patrolling around these religious places. Citizens were provided three layers of security through checking mechanisms at mosques, parks, and other public places on Eid.
Lahore CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that search, sweep, and combing operations, snap checking, biometric verification, and all other preventive measures had already been adopted to prevent anti-peace elements from creating any untoward situation.
Metal detectors, walk-through gates, and CCTV cameras were used for checking and monitoring purposes. Snipers were deployed on the roofs of buildings to keep an eye on any possible suspects or any suspicious activity.
Strict action was ensured against persons involved in aerial firing, one-wheeling, and hooliganism on Chand Raat and Eid.
More than 130 one-wheelers were arrested, and cases were registered against them in different police stations of the city. Similarly, 18 accused were arrested for violating the Aerial Firing Act and the show of illegal weapons, and cases were registered against them on Eid day.
As many as 80 accused were arrested for violating the Kite Flying Act during the Eid vacations, and cases were registered against them in relevant police stations, recovering more than 300 kites and 60 string rolls.
On the directions of CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana, senior police officers, including SsP, SDPOs, and SHOs, visited the houses of Lahore Police martyrs and met with the family members of 154 martyrs, distributing Eid gifts and bouquets among them. Police officers visited 45 family members of Shuhada of Cantt division, Model Town 23, City Division 26, Iqbal Town16, Sadar Division 29, whereas 15 families of Civil Lines Division.
