Revenge and injustice in Karachi: ‘Madaari’ trailer evokes intrigue
Madaari, a highly anticipated film in Pakistan's film industry, is set to hit theatres on Eidul Azha this year. The crime thriller, written and directed by Seraj Us Salikin, takes a deep dive into the portrayal of the complex justice system in Karachi against the backdrop of political turmoil. The film examines the theme of revenge and its impact on the common man. It is set to introduce a new wave of cinema and talented performers transitioning from theatre to the big screen to showcase their potential to a wider audience.
The official trailer of the film, which premiered on Enigma Motion Pictures’ YouTube channel, has been making waves. Its ominous tone sets the pace for what one can expect from the film. The trailer commences with dramatic music as a man tells the younger protagonist that his father made was erroneous in getting involved in politics.
The viewer is later informed that the protagonist's father was killed due to a political rift. Viewers are then walked through local elections contested by political parties within the universe of the film, all set against a dark and gritty tone highlighted by the use of black and red colours, guns, violence, and blood, which foreshadow the protagonist's tumultuous journey.
The film's synopsis reveals that it tells the story of Haris, portrayed by Ibad Alam Sher, who has had a tough life since his father's murder over a political rift. Haris finds a stroke of luck at his father's killer's office, and the film explores whether he seeks revenge or moves on to hopefully create a better life. Madaari also features other young and talented performers such as Hammad Siddiq, Ahmer Hussain, and Paras Masroor, who previously appeared in Na Maloom Afraad and Mah e Mir.
Seraj Us Salikin produced the film under Enigma Motion Pictures, with Ammar Alee Danish producing under Naked Eye Films and Ali Rizvi, who also co-wrote the screenplay, producing under Contentino Films. The film is distributed across Pakistan by Nabeel Ur Rehman Lutfi under the banner of Vantage Productions.
