Commercial entertainment: Theatres to come alive on Eid

City’s 10 halls will present new performances.

LAHORE: The city’s 10 theatre halls are all set to stage new plays during Eid days. Chaudhary Zulfiqar, the Commercial Theatre Producers Association chairman, told The Express Tribune that rehearsals and preparations were in full swing in these halls. Theatre owners are expecting full houses, he said. Zulfiqar said that each theatre hall will present a different performance.

These are Alhamra Cultural Complex, Tamaseel, Naz, Alfalah, Cultural Complex Hall 1 and Hall 2, Alhamra Arts Council Hall 1 and Hall 2, Shalimar, Mehfil Theatre and Bedian Road Theatre.

The most expensive theatre production will be staged at Mehfil Theatre, he added. Theatre administration has claimed that the play has cost them Rs4.5m. Iftikhar Thakur, Deedar, Tariq Tedi and Amanat Chan will be prominent among artists in this play, he said.

Alfalah Theatre that was sealed three months ago by the government after its contract had expired is likely to open this Eid. A theatre official said that a special Eid performance was planned.
