QUETTA:

The provincial government on Monday submitted a report regarding the appointment of 30 coordinators and two spokespersons to the chief minister to the Balochistan High Court (BHC).

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Justice Muhammad Amir Rana resumed the hearing on two constitutional petitions challenging the appointments.

During the proceedings, Advocate General Muhammad Asif Reki submitted the report to the bench.

The coordinators’ lawyers also appeared before the court, pleading that they would submit a reply.

Chief Justice Afghan remarked that the government submitted its response to the court through the advocate general, and there was no need to submit the reply.

The petitioner’s counsel, Muhammad Sadiq Khilji, had challenged the appointments.

Khilji pleaded that the Balochistan chief minister appointed 30 coordinators despite the financial crisis.

The government had repeatedly stated that the coordinators were recruited on an honorary basis.

The hearing was adjourned till April 28.
