A police constable who had sustained injuries in an encounter in Chung earlier last week died of his injuries during treatment. Muhammad Irfan was part of a police team that had confronted four suspected robbers near Chowki Sher Shah. In the gunfight, two suspected robbers had been killed and two police constables, Irfan and Ehsan, had received injuries. Irfan was undergoing treatment at the Jinnah Hospital’s surgical unit when he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

The victim is survived by a widow and two children. Meanwhile, a suspected robber was killed in an encounter with CIA Model Town police on Sunday. Reportedly, the team was escorting a suspect in custody, identified as Akram Khan, for identification and recovery purposes. As they approached Baghbanpura Bheeni Road, Akram’s accomplices allegedly ambushed the convoy to free him.

In the ensuing gunfight, the suspect died. Akram was reportedly involved in many cases of robbery, assaulting police officers, murder, attempted murder, extortion and shootings. In a different development, body of a 50-year-old man was recovered from a canal in Kahna on Sunday. A passerby had spotted the body floating near Chaidoo Village and alerted the police.

A team reached the spot and fished out the body, additionally collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene and recording statements from eyewitnesses. The deceased bore marks of torture on his body, leading initial investigations to suggest that the victim might have been beaten before he died and was dumped in the canal. In a yet separate incident, three suspects who used a blanket to dump body of their friend after allegedly murdering him in Shafiqabad were arrested.
