Nurses warn of protest if salaries not paid

Around 92 carers in Bajaur have not been paid for last 10 months

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Young Nurses Association on Sunday warned the provincial government of holding a protest if the salaries of male nurses in Bajaur district were not paid.

Around 92 male nurses recruited under the accelerated implementation programme of the K-P government have not yet received their salaries for the last 10 months.

Official sources told The Express Tribune that a total of 481 nurses were recruited in the newly merged districts of the province, of which, 92 were appointed at Khar Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Bajaur district in July 2022.

“We demand of the provincial government to take up the issue of non-payment of salaries with the federal government and solve it on a permanent basis,” Young Nurses Association Vice President Arshad Khan said. “If the problem is not solved, the association will call for a protest.”

He said, “When these 481 male nurses were recruited, they were paid for the first three months initially and then their salaries were stopped. The 92 nurses of Bajaur’s Khar hospital have just been paid a single salary since their posting, which is really unfortunate.”

He said after the first salary, they had not been paid despite the fact that these nurses are poor employees who went for government jobs just to receive regular salaries, adding that the association contacted the finance department but they were told that the federal government had stopped payment of funds to K-P so there was no money to pay the employees.
