Twitter introduces 10,000-character-long tweets for Blue subscribers
Twitter has introduced a new feature that will allow Blue subscribers to write 10,000-character-long tweets on the platform, with support for bold and italicized text formatting.
In February, the company introduced 4,000-character-long tweets for Blue subscribers to encourage longer posts instead of threads. The introduction of the new feature comes as Elon Musk is creating monetization tools, and last week had announced that creators could apply for monetization and offer subscriptions to users.
According to Musk, for the next 12 months, Twitter will give all the money to creators after paying Apple or Google their 30% cut. Google, however, charges a 15% subscription fee which puts into question why the Twitter CEO had quoted 30%.
Creators can currently offer subscriptions at $2.99, $4.99 and $9.99 per month, but will need to be at least 18 years old, with 10,000 active followers and a minimum of 25 tweets in the last 30 days.
Twitter is in fierce competition with the newsletter platform, Substack, which has a Twitter-like Notes feed. In the past week, Twitter attempted to block links to the site, along with tweets from the company's Twitter account.
Musk accused Substack of “trying to download a massive portion of the Twitter database to bootstrap their Twitter clone.” The claim was dismissed by Substack's CEO, and the blockade was lifted.
