TANDLIANWALA:

After a heated phone call in Fareed Colony, two men allegedly shot their uncle and his son on Friday. The suspects’ cousin was killed, while their uncle was left wounded. Police took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital for a post-mortem.

Police said 60-year-old Amin, a resident of Sitara Sapna Colony, was sitting at the fish farm garment factory with his 30-year-old son Umair and partner Saeed. Meanwhile, Amin’s brother Younis and his sons, Asif and Rashid, made a phone call to Amin and his son and the conversation reportedly soured, with verbal abuse being hurled at Amin.

Amin and Umair reached Younis' house in Fareed Colony near Gulberg Metropole Cinema, where Asif and Rashid allegedly opened fire on them. As a result, both victims were seriously injured and shifted to Allied Hospital in a private vehicle, where Umair succumbed to his wounds.

As soon as the information was received, DSP Gulberg and other police officers reached the scene. They shifted the dead body of Umair to Allied Hospital for a post-mortem and started searching for the suspects.

Violence between family members is somewhat commonplace within Punjab, with an incident being reported in March of this year where a man allegedly killed seven members of his family in Pakpattan. The suspect, Sarwar, allegedly gunned down seven of his relatives, including his mother and two brothers.

The suspect, who fled the scene after the incident, reportedly carried out the attack over a land dispute. Local residents claimed that Sarwar and his brothers, Iftikhar and Sheharyar had frequent arguments over the distribution of property inherited from their late father.

The incident shocked the residents of the village. Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi sought a report from the inspector general of police about the incident. According to an official statement, he directed the police to ensure the arrest of the suspect at the earliest.
