Favourites Japan made an ominous start to the men’s and women’s team competitions at the World Judo Championships, living up to their star billing. In the men’s competition, Japan registered a convincing 4-1 opening-round victory against Britain. In the women’s competition, Japan started with a comfortable 5-0 success against Britain. Their second-round clash pits them against the formidable Cubans, the most successful nation in women’s team competition after Japan.
