Former minister to be produced before the Islamabad ATC tomorrow

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur on Sunday was handed over to the Islamabad Police on one-day physical remand.

The former federal minister was presented in the duty magistrate's court today. During the hearing, the prosecutor said that Gandapur has been taken into custody by the Islamabad Police.

The judge remanded Gandapur into police custody for another day and instructed the police to present him in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday.

According to Express News, the police will request the physical remand of the PTI leader from the ATC tomorrow.

The police said that a case was registered against Gandapur under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) at Golra police station.

According to sources, the audio of the PTI leader speaking about collecting weapons near Islamabad has also been made part of the case record and the police will seek Gandapur's physical remand to recover arms.

The ex-minister was arrested by the police on Thursday, in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) Dera Ismail Khan in separate cases filed in Islamabad and Punjab.

He was taken into custody after he voluntarily surrendered to the police outside the Peshawar High Court, DI Khan bench where he went to secure bail in the cases registered against him on different charges including terrorism.

The PTI leader claimed that the police were arresting him “illegally” and also carried out raids at his residence.

Earlier this week, security personnel had claimed that they had found a huge cache of weapons from a car that was going to Lahore from Gandapur's DI Khan residence.

During a security check at the Dajal check post of the Bhakkar police, the law enforcement personnel had signalled the car to stop for routine identification but the riders hit the security barriers and fled.

Later, an FIR was registered against Gandapur and the two suspects arrested by the police.

A day later Gandapur was sent to the Central Jail on a six-day judicial remand, ensuring his presence in separate cases filed by Islamabad and Punjab police.
