Fire kills one, leaves three unconscious

Fire fighters used two snorkels to rescue 43 people including 10 women

KARACHI:

A fire broke out in a building in New Chali near II Chundrigar Road, resulting into the death of one person and leaving three unconscious.

The fire started on the fourth floor and quickly spread to the tenth floor through a duct. More than 50 people, including women, were on the affected floor at the time of the incident.

One person, Ali Asghar, was burnt to death in a room where he had locked himself to escape the fire. The fire continued to spread due to petrol, which was stored on the floor where it originated. After an hour's struggle, fire fighters used two snorkels and rescued 43 people, including 10 women, from the building. The cause of the fire on the fourth floor is still unknown. The rescue team managed to save the lives of those who were attempting to jump off the building due to the heat. Officers and personnel of rangers, district police, and traffic police also reached the spot to assist fire fighters. The road from Liaquat Tower to Burns Road was closed to traffic while rescue efforts were underway.
