PTI threatens protests if Punjab, K-P polls delayed

PESHAWAR:

As tensions continue to grow in the political sphere, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has threatened the government with a nationwide protest if the elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) are postponed beyond the period stipulated in the Constitution.

Former lawmakers of the National and K-P Assembly met the former prime minister at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore on Monday. PTI K-P President Pervez Khattak was also present alongside the former ministers.

According to sources, during the meeting, the former premier told the party leaders that PTI stands with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial for the independence of the judiciary.

The meeting also discussed the situation in the north-western province, and Imran instructed his party workers to wait for his call for protest if elections are not held within 90 days.

They also noted that they have to wait for the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision on the matter as well.

While uncertainty continues to frame the situation in K-P.
