A dream and honour: Gigi, Zendaya in awe of saris by Indian ateliers
Hollywood stars Zendaya and Gigi Hadid have made waves in the fashion world after attending the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre's (NMACC) launch event in Mumbai, India. The duo showcased their impeccable fashion sense by donning traditional Indian ensembles designed by renowned Indian couturiers.
Zendaya's stunning violet sari, created by Rahul Mishra, stole the show with its intricate embroidered embellishments and a trailing train. The ensemble was complemented by a gold bralette sewn with leaf-shaped gold sequins. The actor shared a message in awe of the incredible ensemble.
Gigi's equally stunning Chikankari sari and jewelled blouse, designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, added a touch of elegance to the star-studded occasion. The supermodel, who was ecstatic about her ensemble, took to social media to express her gratitude to the designers for bestowing her with the honour of wearing their beauteous creation. She also credited the female artisans who worked on the look.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the model penned the following under a post featuring glimpses of the occasion, “The NMACC Gala was a celebration of Indian craftsmanship, and its inspiration on fashion internationally, with the opening of the exhibit ‘India in Fashion: The Impact of Indian Dress and Textiles on the Fashionable Imagination,’ curated by the iconic Hamish Bowles! It was my honour and joy to showcase this masterpiece designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. This Chikankari sari was made in the Lucknow region of India, and took a year to make; each woman who crafted it specializes in a different stitch truly remarkable workmanship. I'll never forget it.”
She further took to her stories to shed light on the sari she donned and share a message of love for the designer. “Thank you for your beautiful energy - a joy! It was a dream and honour to wear this. Appreciate you and your whole team!” wrote Gigi.
Zendaya, on the other hand, took to her Instagram story to share a picture with American designer and stylist, Law Roach, whilst stating, “Such a beautiful evening. Lucky that I got to share it with my loved ones.”
The duo's choice of traditional Indian wear has garnered widespread admiration from fans, who are praising them for embracing the country's culture and fashion. The designers' impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail have also been lauded by fashion critics.
