From Tom Holland to Jackie Shroff: The best memes we saw from the 'Indian Met Gala'
The launch of The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex has sparked a wave of creative memes across social media platforms. The first-of-its-kind arts space was created by Isha Ambani in honour of her mother, Nita M Ambani, who is renowned for her philanthropy and support of the arts.
The cultural centre, which is set to become a cultural landmark, attracted Hollywood and Indian cinema stars who stunned the crowd with their drop-dead gorgeous looks. However, the event's fashion and glamour were not spared by the witty minds of meme-makers who have flooded the internet with hilarious memes.
For instance, Jackie Shroff was termed "undefeated" for his commitment to a greener world, with some claiming that he alone would lead to the reversal of global warming. Others claimed that "Jackie Shroff walked so that Greta Thunberg (environmental activist) could run" whereas others wanted to focus on his fit.
There was this one Twitter user who messaged Gigi Hadid's ex, former One Direction band member Zayn Malik, rubbing salt in the wounds regarding the viral moment between Varun Dhawan and the supermodel.
One user dragged Bhumi Pednekar by comparing her look to the chandelier under which Shanti Priya from Om Shanti Om was buried.
The Om Shanti Om references were aplenty. Many thought back to how Deewangi Deewangi was our NMACC, while others were disappointed that it was not recreated.
The Tom Holland memes poured in as soon as an image of the Spiderman: Homecoming star shaking hands with Mukesh Ambani went viral. While some thought that Ambani was giving the Marvel hero instructions to don a costume and perform, others thought the handshake was a deal. Many also believed that Holland would soon regret his decision.
Nickyanka weren't spared either. The viral clip from where Priyanka Chopra met Karan Johar, amidst rumours of a feud after an interview in which Chopra claimed that she felt boxed out in the industry, led to people speculating about Nick Jonas' confusion in the background.
Twitter users even roped in Joaquin Phoenix alongside Tom Holland in their memes, sharing a local clip of a joker and Spiderman dancing.
The paparazzi, of course, stole the show with their numerous becks and calls.
Those who wished to scrutinize the looks from the NMACC were also memed.
Even Nita Ambani herself was not spared, with people taking digs at the fact that she chooses to perform at every event.
However, the tweet that takes the cake is also the highest truth: "There are two types of filthy rich people in the world - Those who can get Beyoncé to perform for them, and those who can get Zendaya, Tom Holland, and Gigi Hadid as seat fillers to watch their own performance. The Ambanis are both," it reads.
