I don't know what royal means: Sara Ali Khan dissociates herself from princely family lineage

Actor hails from one of the most popular royal families in India, the Pataudi family

Sara Ali Khan, daughter of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, is also the granddaughter of the last ruler of the princely state of Pataudi during the British regime.

Although she is set to essay a new regal role, Misha in Gaslight, who learns bizarre secrets about her royal lineage, the Simmba star revealed in an interview with The Hindu, that she does not share the same royal backstory.

Speaking more about her childhood, the Love Aaj Kal actor said that she doesn't associate herself with royals despite her lineage and finds it "ridiculous" when people do so. "I find it ridiculous when people think that I'm royalty. I don’t associate myself as a royal,” she shared, adding that she has lived a rather simple life in Mumbai. "I’ve lived in Juhu in Mumbai most of my life with my mother. I go to Bandra to meet my dad. I holiday in Himachal Pradesh and Kedarnath and Jammu and Kashmir. Like seriously, I don’t know what royal means.”

Gaslight, headlined by Sara, also stars Vikrant Massey, Chitrangda Singh, Akshay Oberoi and Rahul Dev in pivotal roles. The film features Sara as Misha, a young paraplegic lady confined to a wheelchair who, after 15 years, returns to her family's royal estate at her estranged father's request only to discover that he has suddenly vanished.

In the companionship of Rukmini (Chitrangda) and Kapil (Vikrant), Misha is soon drawn into a series of odd events. He makes a valiant effort to unearth the truth that is hidden deep inside a mountain of secrets.

Gaslight is scheduled to be released on 31 March 2023, on Disney+ Hotstar.
