Varsity develops new okra, chia varieties
The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has produced high-yielding varieties of chia and okra approved by the Punjab Seed Council.
According to a press release, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Iqrar Ahmad Khan expressed hope that the new varieties would help increase the country’s exports.
The new okra variety produced by the department of plant breeding and genetics has a high yield, tolerance to yellow vein virus, longer pod period and early fruit bearing.
The chia variety has been developed by a team of scientists from the department of agronomy and Ayub Agriculture Research Institute.
