Marvel villain Jonathan Majors arrested after 'girlfriend' says he assaulted her
Jonathan Majors, the Marvel star known for his roles in Lovecraft Country and The Last Black Man in San Francisco, was arrested on Saturday following assault charges by his 'girlfriend' in New York City. Major is the latest villain, Kang the Conqueror, in the superhero universe. Majors’ defence lawyer has since spoken out and stated that the actor is “completely innocent” and is “provably the victim” in the case.
As per Variety, the unnamed victim, a 30-year-old woman, told police that she was assaulted and suffered minor injuries to her head and neck. The incident allegedly occurred after an argument in a cab between the couple while returning home from a bar in Brooklyn. The police received a 911 call and arrested Majors around 11:15 am on Saturday.
Now, the Criminal defence lawyer Priya Chaudhry has released a statement regarding the case. “Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently. All the evidence proves that Mr Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever,” she stated.
Chaudhry went on to explain that the incident happened due to the woman’s emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital the day before the arrest. She added that the NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this was the only reason Majors was arrested. The defence team expects the charges to be dropped soon.
Majors was charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, attempted assault in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, and harassment in the second degree. The actor's representative has denied all such charges against him and said that he’s not guilty. "He has done nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.”
On the work front, Majors had two significant releases this year; Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Other than that, his film Magazine Dreams also received acclaim this year after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
