AGP Elahi cites personal reasons for resignation

Denies reports of being asked to quit by govt

Barrister Shehzad Ata Elahi

ISLAMABAD:

Shehzad Ata Elahi has sent his resignation from the post of attorney general for Pakistan to President Arif Alvi.

In a statement issued on Saturday regarding the media reports that the AGP was asked by the government to resign, Elahi said: “It is not true as I had already informed about my resignation.”

Elahi said, “I was asked to resign is baseless and incorrect. When I informed the important government figure about my resignation, I was prevented from resigning, but I have signed my resignation and handed it over to the senior minister so that the government can send my resignation to the president whenever it wants.”

On the other hand, the resignation of AGP Elahi also came to light, in which it is stated: “I can no longer perform the duties due to personal reasons.”

The date on the resignation letter is of March 23.
