The Anti-Corruption Establishment has initiated an inquiry against nine former members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) over allegations of misuse of powers for the appointment of an executive engineer and receiving commission from the development budget.
According to sources within the department, a report by ASI Asif Nawaz has revealed that the former MPAs, including Adil Pervaiz Gujjar, Ajmal Cheema, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Malik Umer Farooq, Chaudhry Ali Akhtar, Mian Waris Aziz, Khayal Kastro, Muhammad Latif Nazar, and Shakeel Shahid, jointly sent a letter requesting the appointment of Sarmad Akhtar Langrial as executive engineer of Faisalabad Highways.
The report further revealed that in the financial year 2019-20, a budget of around Rs300 million was allocated to M&I Highway Faisalabad for the construction of roads, but Langrial failed to carry out any development work while allegedly giving commissions to MPAs from the budget.
