Former governor of Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) along with his supporters during a meeting with party head Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema on Sunday.
Welcoming the former governor to the party at a ceremony organised at the Muslim League House, Chaudhry Shujaat said the present and past politics of Chaudhry Sarwar were 100 per cent transparent and a proof of his love for the people.
He said Chaudhry Sarwar’s decision would not only help strengthen the party in Punjab and other provinces, but also among overseas Pakistanis.
Chaudhry Sarwar said while speaking to the media on the occasion that he was not joining the PML-Q for the sake of any post, ministry or political gain.
“I am joining this party with the spirit of serving my country and the nation. I am willing to make the Pakistan Muslim League the best, most dynamic and strong political party that works for the development of Pakistan. I am also grateful to my colleagues who have decided to join the party on my call,” he said.
The former governor said the PML-Q would not do politics for the sake of politics and its priority would be the protection of national interests, not personal and political gains.
“We will also form a shadow cabinet to evaluate the government’s performance in sectors including foreign affairs, finance, energy, health, tourism and sports, and make suggestions for improvement,” he added.
Chaudhry Sarwar said he was grateful to Pakistanis from all over the world who had supported him. “It is my responsibility to protect their rights and raise voice for them at every forum,” he said.
He expressed hope that a large number of people would join the party. Chaudhry Sarwar said he was proud of his role in achieving for Pakistan the European Union’s GSP Plus preferential trade status.
