ISLAMABAD:

A mediation conference for industry leaders and business experts was held in the federal capital for the first time to highlight the importance of alternative forums for dispute resolution through mediation.

According to a statement, the event was organised by Musalihah International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (MICADR) - Pakistan’s first private high-court-recognised dispute resolution centre, and Legal Aid Society (LAS) in collaboration with the Federation of

Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry FPCCI.

It stated that LAS is providing direct legal assistance to vulnerable individuals and technical support to the key civil and criminal justice system actors.

The conference titled “Dispute Resolution through Mediation: Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Opportunities for the Industry" was attended by a large number of participants. “Mediation is a cost and time-effective, flexible, and confidential process where a trained and accredited mediator facilitates dialogue and conversations between two or more disputing parties, ultimately guiding them toward a settlement that is mutually beneficial,” the statement stated.

For the corporate sector, cost and time-effective, confidential means of dispute resolution that

sustains business relations, mediation has proven to be the most successful mechanism globally, it added.

The conference also aimed to promote mediation as a premier means of dispute resolution in Pakistan.
