ATC issues arrest warrants for Chakra Goth case witnesses

Court adjourned the hearing till March 17

KARACHI:

An anti-terrorism court issued bailable arrest warrants against 20 prosecution witnesses in the Chakra Goth tragedy case who failed to turn up at the hearing on Saturday while ordering the investigating officer to produce them on March 17 when the court reconvenes.

Three policemen were killed and 27 people, including a police officer, were injured when armed men opened fire on a police mobile in the Chakra Goth in 2011. The accused wanted to spread terror in the name of the organization they were working for.

The Chakra Goth tragedy accused appeared before the ATC on Saturday, but the judge expressed displeasure at the police officers and witnesses who did not show up.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till March 17 while ordering investigating officer to present the witnesses at the next hearing.

As many as 21 people, including Rais Mamma, Kamran Madhuri, Shah Jahan Shaitan, and Zaheer Funtar, are nominated as accused in the case, according to police.
