I'll leave him If he cheats, I'm very serious: Merub on future husband
Actor Merub Ali and singer Asim Azhar have been under the limelight since announcing their engagement. On March 10, Merub appeared on Honest Hour Podcast hosted by popular Canadian-Pakistani YouTuber Shahveer Jafry. During their conversation, the host took the opportunity to ask about her stance on cheating husbands.
"This is a completely hypothetical situation," he clarified before asking. "What if your future husband cheats on you, what will you do? Leave him, hurt him so much that he doesn't recover mentally, or actually physically hurt him?" Merub replied, "Oh, I’ll leave him. I'm very serious about these things," without any hesitation.
"So, you're not crazy enough?" the host cross-questioned. "No!" replied Merub. "And if I physically or mentally harm then what would be the difference between that person and me? I will be the bigger person."
Amidst the conversation, Merub also pointed out how news outlets manipulate quotes in order to attain clickbait headlines. "This one time I uploaded an Instagram Story, which had a caption that read, 'My dad does not like my song choice.' The next day I saw my face in the newspaper next to my fathers, with a headline that said, 'Merub Ali's father is not happy with her choice', with Asim's description below. Like what a twist and manipulation of words. It was very hard for my parents to digest."
She went on to discuss the negative impact of social media. "I feel like laughing," she said, while narrating an incident where her brother wanted her to make a video about trolls online. "The mean comments online are so absurd; they make me laugh. Especially the ones that point out such particular things as flaws, I usually rubbish them thinking how much time they must have on their hands. Like, just close my pictures, if you don't like them. Even I find many people annoying, but I just ignore them or swipe away their online profiles."
Merub futher added, "I even hated Selena Gomez as a child because she was dating Justin Bieber, now how dumb would I have looked criticising her for no reason? I don't get the reason behind such hate."
Before concluding the podcast, the Sinf-e-Aahan actor explained how she intents to be more carefree this year. "This year I've promised myself to care for my own mental health and prioritise it more than anything. If this requires me wasting a few years just on self-care, i don't mind. I also have stopped taking derogatory comments seriously."
