RAWALPINDI:

Due to the deteriorating economic situation of the country, the fees of all public schools – that cater mainly to students with low-income backgrounds - have been increased, adding to the woes of parents reeling under super inflation.

According to sources, the fees have been increased from class I to SSC-II. Over the previous twenty years, government schools have charged each student a monthly fee of Rs20, however, this fee will jump to Rs100 for the following academic year beginning on April 1, 2023.

Currently, over 10 million students are enrolled in government schools across Punjab and a sum of Rs239 million was being collected from these children monthly. Following the hike, the ministry concerned would earn over Rs1.9 billion monthly. Moreover, sources said the Punjab Ministry of Education has also issued a formal notification in this regard.
