RAWALPINDI:

Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench Judge Justice Tanveer Sultan Thursday declared the caretaker government's decision to revoke Talagang’s status as a district, as illegal and ordered it to restore the district to its previous status.

According to sources, Malik Kabir Advocate filed a petition in this regard and adopted the stance that Talagang, the largest tehsil of district Chakwal, was given the status of a district on merit by completing all the legal requirements. The Punjab Assembly enacted the legislation and the Punjab governor issued a notification of final approval in this regard, he said. He further took the stance that the caretaker government has limited powers which are outlined in the constitution and it cannot misuse those powers.

Therefore, he prayed the court should declare the caretaker government's decision to abolish Talagang district as illegal. Following the arguments, the court ordered the government to restore the district.
