Several depts on board for spring festivities

Week-long outdoor, indoor events planned

LAHORE:

Jashan Baharan celebrations will be organised in the provincial capital from March 5 to 12 by the Punjab Department of Culture and Information and the district government.

Lahore Commissioner Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa will supervise all activities related to the spring festival, including security. Information and Culture Additional Secretary Nazia Jabin told reporters that the Jashan Baharan would be celebrated at the divisional level.

Various events will be organised under the department of culture and information, district government, municipal corporation, Parks and Horticulture Authority, Walled City Authority, sports boards and the National College of Arts.

The festival includes sports, culture, tourism, music, bird and pet show and firework events.

The canals and main roads in Lahore will be decorated and illuminated.

Art performances, a Sufi festival, lights and sound show, Ghazal festival, painting exhibition, women’s Mushaira, classical music programme, comedy Mushaira, musical gala, Sarhe 14 August and Mahfil Samaa will also be organised.

The celebrations will be organised at outdoor as well as indoor locations.

The official said arrangements would be made to ensure the participation of the maximum number of citizens in the spring celebrations.

The events will also include marathon races and cycling competitions. Children, women, special persons and athletes will participate in the marathon races. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sahir Ali Baga and other famous singers will perform in music shows.

An exhibition of flowers and Chinioti furniture will also be held.
