Only Rescue 1122 will transport terror attack victims: official

Sindh government's ambulance service 'Rescue 1122' would be used to transport the victims of terrorist attacks, with welfare organisations told not to rush to sites of terrorist attacks. The order was issued in the wake of challenges the law enforcement faced during the attack on Karachi Police Office (KPO) attack in Karachi.

The secretary of the health department has been instructed to prepare new SOP's in this regard.

The Sindh government made several decisions including placing a ban on displaying firearms for three months. It has also launched a crackdown on vehicles with unauthorized number plates.

Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab said that the provincial government was working on a new policy to ensure that only trained personnel were among first responders.

He noted that a worker of a welfare organisation was among the victims in the KPO attack. He said that rescuers had to first ensure their personal safety before helping others while adding that police and 1122 would be performing first responder services.

Wahab said that SOPs would be finalised soon and 1122 personnel would be given training for the same.
