ISLAMABAD:

CPO Operations dismissed two policemen from service for abusing their powers and demanding bribes from citizens, a police public relations officer said.

He said that CPO Operations Syed Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari received complaints that Constable Shajar Abbas and Constable Azhar Hussain, who were posted at Operations Division Eagle Squad, were not only exceeding their powers but also harassing families in public places.

In response, CPO Operations took notice and ordered a transparent inquiry in which the officials were found guilty. Both the officials were dismissed from service, arrested and a case was also registered against them. He said that the process of accountability within the department is underway, and a zero-tolerance policy for corruption will be implemented; officers and officials engaged in such activities will face strict departmental and legal procedures.

He said that strict departmental action will be taken against those who cause disgrace by being slack or negligent in their official responsibilities. The police's job is to safeguard citizens' lives and property, he added.
