Diplomatic event: Consulate seeks better security for Iranians

Two Iranian students were beaten up near women’s hostel.

LAHORE:

The Iranian consulate has expressed concerns over an assault on two Iranian citizens studying in Punjab University and demanded that the provincial government enhance security arrangements for its citizens residing in the province.

In a letter written to the provincial government, the consulate stated that two Iranian women had been beaten up by a few unidentified men in front of a women’s hostel at the university.

The letter has asked the government to make “foolproof” security arrangements of Iranian citizens so that such an incident does not happen again. The letter stated that the violent incident was a matter of great concern for the consulate. It said immediate action should be taken against the men who terrorised the Iranian students. The provincial government has directed senior police officers and other law enforcement agencies to look into the matter and to ensure that Iranian citizens living in the province are safe.

The Home Department has written a letter to the Inspector General of Punjab Police, the Capital City Police Officer, all regional police officers, city police officers and district police officers in the province telling them to increase security for Iranians.
