KARACHI:

The Sindh government will pay the grant for flood-hit farmers to buy seeds, said a handout issued on Monday.

Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Sohail Rajput held a meeting to review arrangements to provide cash subsidies to farmers.

He said that the government of Sindh would provide a Rs5,000 per acre grant to buy seed to help the farmers in the flood-affected districts. Rajput said the registered growers would receive a message regarding cash disbursement through Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Rajput directed the Secretary of Agriculture Department and BISP to complete the cash transfer arrangements this week to ensure the cash transfer by submitting a report to the Sindh Chief Minister.

The chief secretary said that a total amount of Rs4.224 billion would be distributed among the farmers. He further said the subsidy amount would be distributed among 185,928 farmers with 12.5 acres of land in Sindh. He directed all the commissioners to monitor the cash transfer process themselves.
