Rao Anwar’s acquittal challenged

KARACHI:

An appeal against the acquittal of former SSP Malir Rao Anwar and others in the Naqeebullah murder case was filed in the Sindh High Court by Naqeeb's brother Sher Alam through his lawyer.

Alam stated in the appeal was that the Special Anti-Terrorism Court acquitted the accused ignoring the evidence. The decision of the Special Anti-Terrorism Court should be annulled, the appeal read.

The Special Anti-Terrorism Court pronounced the verdict in the Naqeebullah murder case on January 23, 2023. The court acquitted 18 accused including Rao Anwar due to lack of evidence.

Pervaiz Elahi's secretary

SHC has sought a response from the federal government and the Rangers authorities within two weeks on the plea for the recovery of Punjab Assembly secretary and former chief minister Pervaiz Elahi's close aide Muhammad Khan Bhatti.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto heard the petition. The representative for Sindh police chief submitted a report stating that Bhatti is not in custody of Sindh police and was neither locked up at any police station of the province.
