KU teachers call off protest until March 6

KARACHI:

The Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) has called off its boycott of classes for two weeks and resumed teaching.

The decision was announced during a general body meeting, chaired by the association's president Dr Saleha Rehman.

Addressing the meeting, Dr Saleha Rehman expressed her gratitude to the delegation of representatives from all political parties in Karachi for extending their support to the association.

The meeting discussed their negotiations with the secretary boards and vice chancellor last week.

The association was assured that VC would hold a selection board in the third week of every month after receiving permission from the Sindh government for the appointment of professors and associate professors.

Additionally, it was also promised that the case filed against mass media teachers would be withdrawn immediately and dues such as medical expenses and reimbursement of panel hospital bills pending for the last one-and-a-half years would be cleared.

However, teachers expressed concerns about the assurances of the fulfilment of their demands, with the majority suggesting a boycott of evening classes until the payment of evening lectures.

The teachers decided that morning and evening teaching should resume at the university. The protest has been postponed until March 6.
