Mercy Sunot, the lead vocalist of the Filipino rock band Aegis, passed away on November 18. The band announced the heartbreaking news on their official Facebook page on Monday. While the immediate cause of death was not revealed, Aegis stated that Mercy had been battling cancer and eventually succumbed to the illness.

"She bravely fought her battle with cancer but has now found peace and rest," the band wrote.

Aegis paid tribute to the 48-year-old singer, highlighting her invaluable contributions to the group: "It was a voice that brought comfort, joy, and strength to so many. She has touched countless lives, inspiring fans and lifting spirits with every song she sang. Her passion, warmth, and unforgettable presence on stage will forever be cherished in our hearts."  

The band also expressed their gratitude to Mercy for her love, music, and the cherished memories she left behind. Surviving members of Aegis include her sisters Stephanie Ken and Juliet Ken, as well as Rey Abenoja, Rowena Adriano, Stella Maries Pabico, and Vilma Goloviogo.

Over the weekend, Mercy Sunot shared a health update with her fans in a TikTok video. She revealed undergoing lung surgery after experiencing breathing difficulties and being admitted to the ICU. Mercy explained that her lungs were inflamed due to fluid buildup. Doctors prescribed steroids to reduce the inflammation.  

In her message, she asked fans to pray for her recovery. From the hashtags on her TikTok post, it appeared that Mercy was battling breast and lung cancer.

According to ABS-CBS News, Mercy attended singer Eva Eugenio's show in Hayward, California, on November 8. Though not initially scheduled to perform, she sang a few songs upon the audience's request after Eva’s performance. The outlet also reported that Mercy received gifts from fans during the event.
