Sewage has flooded streets and lanes of the Liaquatabad area in the Central district, with residents and locals finding it difficult to go about their daily tasks.
The problem is worse in the back alleys, including the numbered areas of 2, 3 and 4.
The foul-smelling water is accumulated outside houses and businesses on the roads and streets connecting the supermarket at Liaquat No 2 to Jhanda Chowk.
Trash has piled up and mixed with the sewage, adding to the residents' problems. They say that the area is being neglected on purpose.
One resident pointed out that all roads leading to the Rehmaniya mosque at Liaquatabad No 2 were flooded with sewage.
Sewage was also in the boundary area of another mosque nearby. The government school, located at Liaquat No4, was also surrounded by filth and sewage.
A shopkeeper said that the women and the elderly had to be really careful while crossing the road, with broken patches covered with sewage. He said businesses had also been impacted as it was difficult for consumers to access their shop.
Another resident said that several appeals had been made to the elected representatives and made numerous trips to the offices of the water board and the relevant local bodies without any success.
They said the area's sewerage management had been in disarray for several years. An elderly local said that they had voted in the municipal elections in the hope that the successful candidate would solve the problems of the area.
But the results of the elections and the appointment of local government representatives have been delayed, increasing the problems, he said.
