Taxpayer outreach programme: FBR to hire university students
Research to be conducted for encouraging compliance.
ISLAMABAD:
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to hire university students for carrying out research to give suggestions for bringing non-taxpayers into the tax pool.
Sources told The Express Tribune on Friday that Member Facilitation and Taxpayer Education Riffat Shaheen Qazi gave a detailed presentation about the FBR’s taxpayer outreach programme to the sub-committee of the Tax Reform Coordination Group.
She informed the committee that university students will conduct analysis and research based on available data to encourage voluntary compliance. FBR may also offer internships to select competent students from the country’s top business schools and utilise them in research work.
The FBR is also finalising a sales tax lucky draw scheme to encourage documentation of hotels and restaurants among others. The plan further revealed that tax officials will distribute tax facilitation material in business centres to educate taxpayers in filing of returns.
Call Centers established with Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited will also be strengthened while tax officials will distribute tax facilitation material in business centers to educate the taxpayers in filing of returns, according to the plan.
