RAWALPINDI:

A nine-year-old boy, who was allegedly subjected to brutal torture by his father a few days ago, died in Dhok Khaba within the limits of Waris Khan Police Station.

The boy's father named Bashir had beaten the child with sticks three days ago for committing a minor mischief. Later, he shifted him to a hospital when his condition aggravated.

The doctors said that the child had died four hours ago.

Police said that the accused portrayed the cause of his child's condition to be a result of a fall from the roof to escape from the police.

During the initial investigation, the accused confessed to his crime after which he has been formally arrested for further investigation.

Police said that the child named Darwaish was beaten by his father to such an extent that his hands and feet were swollen while his back and waist were severely injured.

The accused did not take the child to the hospital to hide his crime. However, yesterday the child's condition worsened and he was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police sources said that the doctors claimed that the child had died four hours before being brought to the hospital. The police said that the child was apparently tortured with a stick, but the actual cause of death will be known after a post-mortem examination.

The police have shifted the body to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.

The child was a student at a religious seminary and his father worked as a labourer.

Police said that they were trying to register a case against the accused, adding that if the mother did not agree to become a complainant in the case, the police would register the case on the complaint of the state.
