Woman burnt to death in gas explosion

House severely damaged by powerful explosion, allegedly caused by 'minor mistake'

A woman was burnt to death while another person fainted due to suffocation in a house fire caused by gas leakage in the Gulrez Phase 2 on Saturday.

According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, the incident took place within the limits of the Airport police station. He said Rescue 1122 personnel put out the blaze and shifted the fainted person to the Holy Family Hospital.

Meanwhile, he said the police shifted the deceased to District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities. According to the police, the sound of the explosion was so loud that it was heard far and wide. They said that immediately after the explosion, the fire engulfed the entire house due to which the woman died on the spot while another member of her family fainted. The police further said the entire house has been severely damaged by the explosion, with furniture and other items burnt to ashes.

A case of the incident has been registered while statements of eyewitnesses were being recorded to launch an investigation into the matter, they said and added that the accident seemed to be caused by a minor mistake. However, the facts will come out after the investigation, they added.
