CHAK JHUMRA:

The Faisalabad bench of the Lahore High Court has ordered the university to present before it the roll number slip of a final year medical student, Khadija Awan, on Friday (today).

Khadija Awan is the central character in the alleged kidnapping and torture case that happened in the month of August last year.

Police had then arrested six people accused of kidnapping Khadija and her brother and subjecting them to torture.

Meanwhile, Aftab Bajwa, the counsel for Khadija Awan, stated before the court during the hearing before Justice Shahid Karim on Thursday that due to Khadija’s “refusal” to settle the matter “with the accused, Sheikh Danish, a powerful industrialist, the administration of the university on Sargodha Road” had held back issuing her the roll number slip for her final year exam.

The counsel told the court that the university’s act had caused Khadija deep mental agony.

Expressing its severe resentment over the matter, the court summoned an officer of the University of Health Sciences to appear at the hearing on Friday.

The court said that the student’s roll number slip should be brought to the court.

Khadija incident

In the month of August last year, police had arrested six people accused of kidnapping Khadija and her brother and subjecting them to torture.

Khadija had filed a case in which she stated that Ana Ali, daughter of accused Danish Ali, a resident of Paradise Valley in Sheikhupura, was a friend of hers since their school days and she (the complainant) often visited her house.

The complainant had alleged that during these visits the accused Danish Ali started taking interest in her and even formally sent a proposal which she rejected.

Khadija in her complainant had alleged that after she had rejected the proposal, the accused, through his daughter Ana Ali, began to pressure her into changing her mind and accepting the proposal.

The complainant had alleged that the accused had even begun to send her death threats. After those threats, the complainant said that she decided that from now on she would have nothing to do with her friend and her family.

The complainant alleged that on August 9, when her brother, Hasan Ghafoor Ali, who had come from England, and his friends, Malik Ali Awan, Ali Alvi and she herself were at home, accused Sheikh Danish Ali, his daughter and Faizan, Shoaib and Khan Muhammad barged into their house and started torturing her and her brother at gunpoint.

Khadija had alleged in her complaint that the accused then kidnapped her brother and herself and took them to their residence.

Meanwhile, in an exclusive chat with The Express Tribune on Thursday, Khadija reiterated her stance that her university had not been issuing her the roll number slip to appear in her final year exam.

She told The Express Tribune that when she enquired from the university why she had not been issued the roll number slip, the university authorities, according to Khadija, told her that they didn’t want her to appear in the exam for the sake of her own security.
