40 doctors issued show-cause notice

Balochistan starts disciplinary action against medics’ absence from duty

Balochistan Chief Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili on Tuesday approved a policy to post doctors in their hometowns for at least three years.

He also approved the dismissal of six doctors from service for their prolonged absence from jobs.

The CS chaired a high-level meeting, which reviewed the performance of the health sector in the province.

Health secretary Saleh Muhammad Nasar briefed the meeting about the state of government-run hospitals and issues being faced by the doctors’ community.

The CS assured that all possible steps would be taken to address the grievances of the health professionals. He, however, made it clear that strict action would be taken against elements involved in corrupt practices and chronic absentees.

Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against 57 officers, and the CS announced the decision in a tweet. Show-cause notices were issued to 40 doctors for not attending their hospitals and doing their jobs, Uqaili said.

“There will be no compromise over the quality of services in the health sector,” the CS asserted, adding that action will be taken against the employees failing to perform their duties.

The health secretary also presented the draft policy regarding post-graduate doctors. Addressing the meeting, Aqeeli said that there will be no compromise on the provision of health services. Action should be continued against the doctors guilty of negligence.

“Additional allowance should be given to the postgraduate doctors who are doing duty in remote areas,” Uqaili said.
