Fowls displayed at KU exhibit
The students of the Poultry Science department of the University of Karachi organised an exhibition of fowls, including local and foreign chickens, ducks, peacocks, partridges, quails, parrots and pigeons.
Organisers said that the purpose of the exhibition was to learn and create awareness about rehabilitation, breeding, rescue, healthcare and taming of birds. More than twenty stalls were set up at the exhibition, with more than one hundred birds of about thirty species. Cornish cross, brown leghorn, Egyptian chickens, ducks of different breeds and colourful birds and a lone dragon were loved by the people.
A large number of experts from the poultry sector also attended the show and informed the exhibitors and visitors about different types of birds and breeds of chickens.
Birds from Europe, local breeds, white cockatoos, golden puff peacocks and parrots of different species were also part of the show.
Nabil Siddiqui, a first-year student, while talking to The Express Tribune, said that in Pakistan bird farming and breeding was yet to be modernised. "The world is using modern technology like control sheds for poultry farming while we are stuck to traditional methods."
