The Sindh High Court on Tuesday accepted the post-arrest bail plea of Dania Shah, the former wife of the late politician and television personality Aamir Liaquat Hussain. She had been in custody since December in a case pertaining to obscene videos of Liaquat that were shared on social media.
A single-member bench consisting of Justice Omar Sial gave its decision on Dania's plea, granting her bail and ordering her release from prison.
Dania's lawyer Liaquat Gabol had argued that the phone numbers from which the videos were spread did not belong to his client.
He called the case against her weak while arguing for bail. The court ordered the accused to deposit a surety bond of Rs200,000 while accepting her plea.
Dania was arrested by the cyber crime wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Punjab's Lodhran over a complaint filed by Liaquat's daughter from his first marriage. She was indicted last month.
Liaquat's daughter, in her statement before a judicial magistrate last week, said that Dania was responsible for the videos going viral, and that it contributed to her father's death.
The video featured the late politician and television personality in a state of complete undress in his home, allegedly after the consumption of an illegal substance.
This video was leaked a few days after news broke of the dissolution of his third marriage.
