Spring festivities lined up
Caretaker Chief Mohsin Naqvi has called for the celebration of the Jashan-e-Baharan in other major cities of Punjab along with Lahore.
Presiding over a meeting on Tuesday, he said marathon races would also be organized as part of the spring festival.
He also directed the authorities concerned to organise a horse and cattle show in the provincial metropolis.
It participants were informed that the Jashan-e-Baharan in Lahore would be organised at several parks and other locations.
The decision to organize the celebration at other locations besides Jillani Park was taken in view of the scheduled Pakistan Super league cricket matches.
The celebrations will be aimed to ensure maximum participation of citizens.
Traditional food stalls will be set up along with a circus, music, flower, bird, cat and dog shows, storytelling and painting competitions as well as other events for public entertainment.
Additionally, the canal and major roads of the city will be illuminated with decorative lights.
Caretaker Information and Culture Minister Amir Mir, Local Government Minister Ibrahim Murad, Livestock Minister Bilal Afzal, chief secretary, secretaries of local government, livestock and information departments, the commissioner and DC of Lahore, local government and PHA director generals and other officials concerned attended the meeting. The Faisalabad commissioner and DC participated through video link.
Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar also visited the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to inspect security measures for the PSL matches. They reviewed the closed circuit television (CCTV) monitoring system, particularly along the PSL routes, and observed the city areas from a digital wall.
The chief minister instructed the staff to work enthusiastically and connect the CCTV cameras in Rawalpindi and Multan with the PSCA system in Lahore to monitor the arrangements.
He also emphasised the need for a well-planned traffic management system for citizens and providing food and tea to the police and staff on duty for the event.
PSCA Managing Director Muhammad Kamran Khan said the security for the event was being monitored through 550 cameras in Lahore, while arrangements for monitoring the routes had also been completed.
