ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan among other party leaders submitted his response on Tuesday to a show-cause notice issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Previously, the ECP had initiated contempt proceedings against Imran as well as party leader Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry for issuing statements against the electoral body and the chief election commissioner.

The response was submitted by the party's Secretary General Asad Umar to the ECP today.

Meanwhile, during the hearing, Imran's lawyer requested the postponement of proceedings. In his application, Imran said that an election was being held in his and Fawad Chaudhry's constituencies where the two were candidates.

Requesting for the hearing to be resumed after the election, the PTI chief stated that he will "try and appear in person for the next hearing".

Granting the request, the ECP postponed the hearing until February 28.

It may be noted that in January, the ECP had announced its decision to issue bailable arrest warrants for PTI chief Imran Khan and other senior party leaders, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry, for failing to appear before the commission in contempt proceedings.
