7,500 cops put on PSL security, says DIG

1,000 SSU commandos, snipers, deployed at strategic points

At least 7,500 police personnel including 1,000 police commandos will perform security duties for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches to be played at Karachi's National Stadium.

"A contingent of Pakistan Army soldiers will be on standby, said DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Maqsood Memon at a press conference held at the Special Services Unit (SSU) headquarters.

Snipers will be deployed at sensitive locations. Security will be enhanced at Jinnah International, roads leading from hotel to the stadium, parking points around the area and practice ground.

DIG Memon said fans will not be allowed to carry any firearms, toy guns, explosives, firecrackers, cigarettes and lighters inside the stadium. Any banner, poster, or placard written on the basis of religion or caste, discrimination or obscenity will be strictly prohibited.

Entry of vehicles installed with CNG cylinders is strictly prohibited in the stadium premises, the head of city police security wing said.

He said, police and city administration have made arrangements to facilitate the people by trying to reduce the problems commuters may face during the matches.

Only one track of Sir Shah Sulaiman Road leading to the stadium's main gate has been closed for traffic, he said, adding that all other roads will remain open. Moreover, China Ground has been opened, people coming to watch the match with tickets for any enclosure can park their cars in the China Ground and walk to the stadium, DIG Memon said.

He told the media that all security arrangements for the PSL 8 have been completed. The security plan includes deployment of Sindh Police, Pakistan Rangers and Pakistan Army troops. DIG said that 7,500 officers of Sindh Police will perform security duties while more than 1,000 SSU commandos will also be part of the security arrangements.

DIG Memon said that minimum traffic will be blocked for the convenience of the citizens.
